IFORS Travel Sponsorship to join ELAVIO

ELAVIO is the Latin-American Summer School in Operations Research, promoted by the Latin-Iberian American Association of Operations Research (ALIO) and supported by the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS). The school is aimed at young researchers and students (PhD, Master's, and advanced undergraduate) from Latin America, Portugal, and Spain, with outstanding performance and an interest in Operations Research, Systems Engineering, and Applied Mathematics. The next edition of ELAVIO will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay, from February 21 to 26, 2027.

IFORS is pleased to announce the travel sponsorship of one participant to join ELAVIO.

Requirements for applicants to the fellowship are:

• To be proficient in English and to have a basic understanding of Spanish or Portuguese.
• To have done work in the specific fields of interest of the school.
• To be a PhD or Master student, or to have completed a PhD no more than 2 years ago.
• To be affiliated with an institution in a developing country outside the ALIO member countries, regardless of nationality. 
• To be able to present some of his/her work and answer questions in English.
• To be highly recommended by their advisor in their area of work.
• The chosen candidate will be required to submit a final report to IFORS regarding the impact of their participation.

Young researchers interested in applying for a travel grant must send the following documents (PDF file format) to José-Fernando Camacho-Vallejo (Vice-President of IFORS for ALIO, fernando.camacho@tec.mx) and the local Organizing Committee of ELAVIO (elaviouy@fing.edu.uy):  

• a short curriculum vitae;
• a recommendation letter from his/her advisor;
• summary (max. 2 pages) of a work to present at the school in case of acceptance.

Important dates:
November 22, 2026: Deadline for applications
December 6, 2026: Communication of results
December 20, 2026: Deadline for confirming attendance and payment of registration fee
February 21-26/2027: ELAVIO 2027!

The accepted candidate will receive the travel grant from IFORS. Accommodation and meals will be provided by the ELAVIO organization upon payment of the registration fee of U$S 50 (fifty US dollars).
