Limited-Term, Joint Appointment in Biology & Statistical and Actuarial Science @ Western University

The University of Western Ontario invites applications for a full-time Limited-Term faculty appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications and experience, to participate in the delivery of undergraduate Biology and/or Statistics courses, including courses that are cross-listed across these two disciplines, at Western University. The appointment is expected to be effective January 1, 2018. The successful candidate will be jointly appointed to the Departments of Biology and Statistical & Actuarial Sciences. The initial appointment will be up to three years in duration and may be renewable. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position has been created in support of Biostatistics at Western University, and has an 80% Teaching/20% Service workload distribution. Teaching duties will include up to 3.5 full course equivalents over a twelve-month period, while Service duties will include departmental, faculty, university and professional committee work, as appropriate.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a faculty member in either the Department of Biology or Statistical & Actuarial Science, within the Faculty of Science, according to his or her academic background. Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses in both programs, as well as developing an online course, and course- and program-level learning outcomes. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in service opportunities in both departments.

● A PhD in Biology, Statistics or related fields with experience teaching at the university level, or an MSc in one of the aforementioned disciplines with significant teaching experience at the university level

● A degree in Education
● Excellence in undergraduate classroom teaching, as evidenced by, but not limited to:
o Innovative undergraduate course, curriculum, or laboratory design and evaluation
o Outstanding teaching evaluations
o Teaching awards
o The effective implementation of technology in curriculum delivery
o The use of teaching methods that enhance student engagement and learning
● Experience in providing high-impact learning experiences for undergraduate students
● Interest and/or experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning
● Training in pedagogy or teaching at the university level
