PhD Position at Renault (France)

A 3-year PhD position is available at the French carmaker Renault, Drancy (France) on “Simultaneous optimization of the routing and scheduling balancing the loading and unloading workload”.

The thesis will be done in the framework of scientific collaboration with LIMOS, Saint-Etienne (France), France

Keyword: supply chain management, vehicle routing, planification, green logistic

Financial support: PhD thesis at the head of the Supply Chain Alliance of the Renault Company (3 years contract with permanent employment opportunity at the end of the thesis)

Policy of compensation: according to pay structures of the company (related to diploma)

Location: Renault Drancy (France)

Laboratory: LIMOS, Saint-Etienne (France)

Contacts: Xavier Delorme (delorme@emse.fr), Philippe Lacomme (placomme@isima.fr)

Subject:
The French carmaker Renault has a complete inventory of service parts based on several hundreds of suppliers. Some parts required specific sustainable packagings that have to be return to suppliers. The management of the logistic of both parts and packagings is an economic challenge for Renault.

Considering the forecast of the annual amount of exchanged parts and packaging, Renault would have defined a new logistic solution composed of direct and indirect flow (crossdocking). The routing solution should balance the workload of loading and unloading operations. The final solution, composed of routing and planning operations, leads to contracts that define the technical and
financial terms of execution.

The problems lead to the class of Vehicule Routing Problem (PDP or Dial-a Ride) and Lot Sizing Problem.

Goal: The project will have two main phases. First the PhD student will propose optimization algorithms taking into account the various constraints of the industrial problem and then he/she will evaluate new processes to a decrease of supply costs.

Application form must include:
