The Department of Mathematics at Aarhus University seeks candidates with excellence and vision in their research for two Associate Professor/Tenure Track Assistant Professor positions in Selected Areas of Mathematical Economics, Statistics and Data Science. Aarhus University is an international top 100 university with its campus located centrally within the city of Aarhus, Denmark. The positions are open from 1 February 2023.
We are in particular searching for candidates with documented research activity within the following areas
– Applied Statistics
– Financial Mathematics
– Insurance Mathematics
– Statistical Learning
– Stochastic Optimization
In 2019 the Department of Mathematics underwent a strategy review, resulting in 10 specific strategic goals being set for the period 2020—2025. See here. With this call we want to add two new researchers to the scientific staff that can contribute to a stimulating environment, helping
the department meet its strategic goals by the year 2025.
The Department of Mathematics currently employs 34 permanent scientific staff members within the traditional mathematical disciplines and stochastics. The Department of Mathematics houses an applied Statistics Laboratory, is a stakeholder in DIGIT, “Centre for Digitalisation, Big Data and Data Analytics”, and has collaborations with BiRC, “Bioinformatics Research Centre”, and CREATES, “Center for Research in Econometric Analysis of Time Series”.
The successful candidate should have:
– A record of original scientific contributions to one of the areas listed above.
– A track record of independent and collaborative research.
– A documented ability and interest in taking responsibility for teaching at all levels.
– Obtained, or the convincing potential to obtain, external funding for research activities.
– The potential to help the department meet its strategic goals.
The successful candidate is expected to:
– Shine in international collaborative research.
– Teach and develop courses offered by the department at all levels.
– Supervise/co-supervise students at all levels from Bachelor to PhD.
– Build and sustain a research group around her/himself through external funding.
– Contribute towards the department’s strategic goals.

Natural Sciences Tenure Track
Aarhus University offers talented scientists from around the world attractive career perspectives via the Natural Sciences Tenure Track Programme. Highly qualified candidates are appointed as Assistant Professors for a period of six years with the prospect of performance- based advancement to a tenured Associate Professorship position.
The aim of the Natural Sciences Tenure Track Programme is to:

As part of the tenure track position, the candidate is offered:

As part of the Aarhus University Tenure Track Programme, the University carries out a mid-way evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track candidate after three years, according to the same criteria used in the final tenure review. The final tenure review is conducted after five and a half years. If the review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor at Aarhus University.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range
Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
