IFORS congratulates the Iranian Association of OR (IORS) on its acceptance into the international OR federation. IORS is the 50th national OR society member, accepted on the 50th year of IFORS. It was officially notified of its acceptance on December 18. 2009.

IFORS President Elise del Rosario was on hand to welcome participants of the 8th International Symposium on Operations Research and Its Applications (ISORA09), held from Sep 20 to 21, 2009 in Zhangjiajie China. An APORS-supported annual meeting, the conference was attended by over 120 participants. In her Opening Plenary, the IFORS President described applications of OR that show the power and versatility of the OR discipline through numerous examples she has worked on. She ended by exhorting OR workers to help address the challenge, along with IFORS, of making OR useful to more people around the world.

IFORS congratulates the national OR society of Uruguay, Asociación Uruguaya de Informática e Investigación Operativa (Informatics and Operational Research Uruguayan Association) on its acceptance into the international OR federation. AUDIIO is the 49th national OR society to join IFORS. It was officially accepted May 4, 2009 after the three month ballot which concluded April 15.
